: : : I am having trouble with my 8N.It can be hard to start, but usually will run.Lately it has a tendecy to just cut off in the middle of running.I am wondering if the timing chain is getting stretched or if it could be a carburator or distributor problem.Any suggestions on how to track it down?
: : Remove hose on inlet side of carb, when the motor
: : starts to die give it a little shot of starting fluid,if it picks up and
: : runs better, you have a fuel system problem. Has it been
: : converted from 6V to 12volt? If you are running 12v
: : make sure you have a 12v coil with built in resistor
: : or a resistor between the hot wire going to the coil
: : and the coil.

: Robert, 12 volt coils do not have a "built in" resistor. The resistor for these coils is built into the wiring harness, as oppossed to a external resistor.
You can buy a universal 12v coil with built in resistor at any parts store.
