Ion, I don't know if this will help at all, but since there have no posts so far to your question I offer my experience with diesel timing on Allis-Chalmers. Your tractor may have similar provisions, hopefully. Like on the D-17 Allis-Chalmers, there is a "dowel" pin in the flywheel housing which was inserted through the housing into the flywheel indicating top dead center for No. 1 piston. It also could indicate bottom dead center which you don't want and you must be sure you're "topping" and not "bottoming" on the No. 1 cylinder. Top dead center for No. 1 will occur soon after No. 6's exhaust valve closes. When the dowel pin was inserted into the flywheel through the housing after making sure the No. 1 piston was on top dead center, a small timing plate was removed from the side of the pump by removing its two flat head screws with a screwdriver (A Roosa-Master in this case) and the pump simply turned a little by having loosened its two mounting bolts in the slotted holes, until the timing marks aligned. If the pump had been removed you had to be sure it was ready to fuel No. 1 cylinder when it was installed by aligning it's ports, which you could check by air pressure being applied, and aligning the holes in the pump drive shaft and the hole in the shaft coming off the cam. This may be of no help at all, but the principal would still apply. I just don't know about the Sims pump. Have a good day, John
