After much analysis I purchased a Craftsman 18.5HP garden tractor.
Several mechanics recommended Kohler over B&S and Sears had on close out with additional 10% off. I was also told by that AYP tech that the manual transmission is stronger than hydro so I chose it, also $300 cheaper.
I agree the JD and Kubota are heavier units but the Craftsman was $1970 and the JD & Kubota are ~$6500.
The more expensive units have better damping for the seat & driver. Dan
