: I am in the market for a new tractor, mostle for work around the yard. I need something that gives a smooth ride due to back problems. It seems the bigger tired machines ride better and am looking at garden tractors as opposed to lawn. Can someone give me some good advise? There are so many its hard to decide. Why are JD's so much more than murray or MTD? are sears any better than MTD or Murray? SHould I go Hydrostatic? HELP!!!!!!

I think for the money an MTD or a Murray are good mowers. John Deere makes a very good mower also, but they are much more expensive. What I would do is ask a few dealers to let you try one of their garden tractors with a mower deck out. The local JD dealer here is more than happy to let you try a demo. I would suggest you try a cheaper mower and a more expensive one, then decide if the
difference in the ride is worth the money. I like hydrostatic drive also. I own a Kubota G1800, 16HP diesel with hydrostat and a 48" deck. I really like this unit and it is comparable to a JD in quality and performance in my opinion. I personally feel both JD and Kubota are a much better mower than a Cub Cadet, however there are alot of the Cub Cadets sold, so there must be many
satisfied customers. SEA

P.S. Don't forget to look at Simplicity, they make a real good mower to!!
