: I am in the market for a new tractor, mostle for work around the yard. I need something that gives a smooth ride due to back problems. It seems the bigger tired machines ride better and am looking at garden tractors as opposed to lawn. Can someone give me some good advise? There are so many its hard to decide. Why are JD's so much more than murray or MTD? are sears any better than MTD or Murray? SHould I go Hydrostatic? HELP!!!!!!

Im sure everyone out there has different opinions on this so heres my 2 cents worth. In my opinion I think just for general lawn and garden work you cant go wrong with any of the ones you listed. Im happy with my 8hp murray which is a 71 model. I can still get parts for it. MTD has a good mowing deck mounted system which lets you disconnect quickly. Also the steering sysem is good, unlike the murrays Ive seen. The only problem is that they dont hold their value like deeres do. This might offend a lot of people but every craftsman power tool Ive ever had has been nothing but a headache, from mowers to tillers to weedeaters. They all break down eventually. parts cost is a factor as well.
