As long as you are just looking for an opinion, I'll
give you mine. The early flathead and the later overhead valve engine are completely different with the latter giving quite a bit more HP. As far as reliability , If you take care of either engine it will probably outlive you. Strictly a personal decision. Live hydraulics on the newer ones would sway me if I worked the tractor a lot
