: What size hydraulic pump and motor would it take to couple the motor with a chain/sprocket direct to a rear end of a homemade tractor. Would it be strong enough or should i go through a transmision? Any help or ideas would be apprecated. Also we will be using a 6cyl. gas engine Thanks for the help! B.Neal

First the disclaimer, I am not an expert on hydraulics. But I'll bet we can get some help. Some questions need to be asked though, because the terminology "homemade tractor" indicates the use of available parts. A hyd. motor can easily power a direct drive system (up to a motor actually driving each wheel). But they have to be sized (both pump and motor) to the task. Wheel diameter desired, top speed desired and weight of tractor. The gentleman suggested a pump that might be available through salvage, this is definitely the info. that would be needed. Next of course, would be a source of salvage motors (skid loaders? or other industrial equipment), this could be fun if we put our heads together. Indian Guy, where are you, you started this.
