: GUYS, IM BANGING MY HEAD....
: MY 1950-52 8N WON'T START, THE STARTER TURNS, I HAVE DECENT SPARK
: ON OUT FO MY COIL AND AT ALL FOUR PLUGS. PLUGS DO GET WET. NEW POINTS, SET AT .015, NEW PLUG WIRES.
: THE ONLY TIME I EVEN GET A SPUTTER IS WHEN I JUMPER AROUND THE IGINITION
: RESISTOR, SO I REPLACED IT....DIDN'T MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
: I HAVE 6 VOLTS INTO THE RESISTOR, ABOUT 4.5 OUT TO THE COIL.
: I HAVE ALSO SWAPPED OUT THE COIL...THINKING MAYBE THE SPARK WASN'T
: STRONG ENOUGH. I STARTED LOOKING AT THE STATER ITSELF, AND POSSIBLY THE SOLENOID (STATER RESISTOR).
: THE ONLY THING THAT I SAW THAT WAS EVIDENT, WAS THAT OCCASIONALY THE STARTER SEEMS TO
: DISENGAGE....OR CHATTER. I HAVE TO STOP WITH THE STARTER BUTTON AND THEN RESUME AGAIN.
: THE TRANNY IS IN NEUTRAL (MECHANICAL CUTOUT).

: ANY SUGGESTIONS, AS TO WHY THIS WON'T START OR WHAT TO LOOK AT???

: WHAT COMPOUNDS THE TROUBLESHOOTING IS THE 6VOLT BATTERY DOSN'T LAST LONG
: AND THE CARBS FLOODS, BUT I HEAR THIS IS TYPICAL.

: THANKS AGAIN,

One thing you may try to ease the load on the battery is as follows:
Turn switch on as normal. Get a hot 12 V battery, and set BESIDE the tractor. Attach jumper cable from POS post to a good ground on tractor. Be SURE the tractor is in neutral. Connect second cable to NEG post on battery, use other end of this cable to touch the post on starter. This should spin the starter fast enough to start if is ever going to. If all else fails tie a chain to it and have a friend pull you in high gear.
Luck,
