: I am new to the tractor world and would like to know more about a 3pt. bucket. I was thinking about putting a frontend loader on my tractor, but I always hear its hard on the front end. I would only need a bucket to move the occasional pile of gravel or dirt anyhow. And by the way, what is a 3 pt. pole crane and how high can it lift things? If you need to email me at pstanley@direct.ca

The three point crane simply attaches to the 3 pt. hitch like any other three point implement. The original Dearborn crane had a standard and heavy duty model, with 2 or 3 hooks to attach chains to lift something. When you raise the 3 pt hitch the crane goes up. The weight you can lift is somewhat limited because of the distance the weight is out beyond the rear axle. It does not take a lot of weight to lift the front end of the tractor off the ground. Therefore any heavy objects may require some front end ballast. One advantage of putting on a front end loader is that it is good front ballast when you are using the 3 pt. crane; but if you have the front end loader you'll more than likely not use the crane very much.
