: I have an early JD model B with the power lift system. Not the power-trol. I currently use it to pull a tow brush hog for field cutting. A friend gave me a #5 mower which I would like to hook up and use but I am missing a few parts: The #5 has a set of two clamps that appear to clamp on a special round drawbar. I do not have this drawbar. I also do not have any method for raising and lowering the cutting bar. I have consulted the regional JD genius, Carl Fowler of Bennington, VT. He says I need a rocker arm and pulley and cable for this operation. Anyone out there have these parts for a reasonable price? Explanations for how this whole Doo-dad works as well as tips are also helpful. Even a #5 users manual would be very valuable.

Mark: The brackets you are looking for the drawbar are for the quicktach the ones that I used when I was a kid were just a round shaft welded to an angle iron bolted to the sides of the draw bar later models with sliding drawbar not rolling drawbar. My dad made them fit a 37 B JD and they are still on it for the number five mower he has. As for the lift it bolted to the left side of rear axle housing and was a foot operated lever with the left foot to raise the cutter bar. The mower came with a long rod to connect to the lever. It was hooked on the mower to a short lever about 8 inches long. I was young when I started cutting hay and dad replaced it with a cable and a screen door spring to pull the foot lever foward. I liked that setuup better than a hydralic cyllinder as I could work it faster than the other on corners.
