John Deere made the #44 plow on steel wheels (it might have had trip beams) during the 40s. If it is a Deere plow, somewhere near the part numbers should be small stylized "JD" symbols. I think Oliver also made a trailer trip plow during the 40s. It was fairly common for someone to buy a different brand of plow from their tractor. My grandfather ran a Ford, later a Massey Ferguson tractor, but always with JD plows.
