: Looking for information on how to time a 1925 Twin City, 16 valve engine

I'm not sure if you mean setting the crank, idler, and camshaft gears, or once that's done, how is the mag set. I'll attempt to explain both. Looking at the front, set the crankshaft gear so the mark is up. The idler gear above the crankshaft gear has three marks. Set one of the marks to match the crankshaft gear mark. The other two marks will be at, say, 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock. Set the mark on each camshaft gear to match its respective mark on the idler. Now, I suspect you have already figured that out, so on to the mag. There is no timing mark as such; it is set by a sliding (rotating) the magneto drive plate on a collar on the end of the magneto drive shaft. There will either be a nut or three screws holding it in place. It may take some careful work to get it loose, anyway that's always been my experience, and it may take some heat. Once loosened, set No. 1 on TDC, mount the magneto, with the mag drive plate loose, and rotate the magneto slowly until the impluse clicks being careful to not let it over rotate, or if it does, simply back it up to the point that it clicked or fired. Then tighten the nut or screws to set the mag drive plate in place. Set the No. 1 plug wire to the post that the rotor just passed, then 3, 4, and 2. Email me if you have other questions.
