: Guys, thanks for the replies. I have a question, though: What is live hydraulics? Does that mean it can apply pressure in both directions as opposed to only 1 direction? By live PTO, I assume you mean that you can turn off the PTO, like with the hand clutch on the WD.

On the 9-2-8N Fords the PTO must be on for the lift system to lift.
Lift is all you get, gravity pulls them down to the ground.
Also the clutch must be engaged for them to work, so when you want to stop
or shift gears the PTO and lift also stop.
The so called "live" systems will continue to operate when you stop or
shift gears. Some Fords have "independent" PTO and Hyd lift where the clutch
has no effect on their operation. Ind. PTO and HYD are the best from an operating
point, followed by the "live" and last all others.
That said, you will have little trouble with any of the "N" series Fords for
the work you mention. If you haven't been used to the others, you'll never miss
the live systems. A belley mower would be nice for your use but they cost more.
Luck D.O.N.
