: I have seen reference to a piston type pump and also a vane type pump. I'm not sure what I have or how to tell the difference.
: I have the engine off the tractor right now and thought I might rebuild the hydraulic pump since it is off the engine. The hydraulic control
: lever was broken when I bought the tractor last fall and when I drained the fluids for the engine rebuild the hydraulic fluid was a cream color.
: It looks like water got in there somehow. any and all help is appreciated.

The piston pump is barrel shaped, with a pipe plug (could be socket headed) on the top. The vane pump will have a speed control knob on the front. Be careful when rebuilding them. Many parts for the vane pumps are no longer available, and the piston pump needs some special tools to replace bearings, seals, and check valves. Email me if you need any help.
