: My neighbor got his 8N stuck in the mud today and while turning the steering wheel hard to one side the steering just went out on him . I have all Farmalls so Ford steering is not something with which I am familiar (yet) so please excuse any stupid questions. It looks the steering wheel shaft may have a worm on it that engages the front gear of two steering arm gears . Does that sound right ? It looks like maybe a bearing on the steering wheel shaft is broken allowing the worm to disengage the steering arm gears !?
: Can someone tell me about 8N steering boxes, how they fail , and where is the best place to get parts ? Thanks , John ( Ed my neighbor thanks you too )

John, you are correct about the worm gear engaging the sector shafts. Bearings can fail and cause this problem. 8N's had 2 different boxes. One with screw adjusters in the case opposite the sector shafts, and one with eccentric sector covers (4 bolts retaining the cover, but 12 holes) Most of the parts are available from New Holland,TISCO, or Central Tractor.
