: I am having timing problems with a Wico distributor on an IXB Hercules. It is the same distributor
: uded on IH, AC, and others. It is not a true mag, though it looks like one. It is simply a coil and
: points set in a mag housing with distributor cap. My book has very limited details, but I followed them
: exactly. I have good spark, but just pops from exhaust. Also need to confirm firing order is
: 1-2-4-3. Any help greatly appreciated!

The standard firing order is 1-3-4-2. Try it that way it should run. The firing order is stamped on the block somwhere on every motor. If it is running at all then your timing is very close to right. If it pops only when you bring it down from high speed to idle that is normal in old engines. That means the timing is a shot fast and that is the way it is supposed to be, because if it didn't pop then it would be set exact and when you opened it up it couldn't keep up and wouyld choke itself from too much gas. This only applies if you have the firing order correct. 1-3-4-2. Any questions e-mail me or repost. Hope this helps.
