Looks like most of the other ideas will work but why don't you use carbuerator cleaner and let it soak. Old cast iron carbuerators with rust will require a wire wheel on a drill for inside cleaning and aluminum carbs can be spruced up a bit with aluminum wheel cleaner from your local auto parts.Carbuerators can be glass beaded in a blast booth but should be left to an expert since it will require a toal disassembly and some expertise in knowing what not to bead.
