: I am still hunting for my first tractor project. I am about to go look at an 1957 Super 55 diesel. Is there any special problems I should be looking for on this model. I am in British Columbia and believe me the old tractors are hard to find here and if this is a good model I don't want to miss this one. I already missed a JD 430. By the way, the asking price is $2,600 Canadian ($1,800US).

GOOD TRACTOR,IF IT HAS POWER STEERING.CHECK THAT TRANSMISSION STAYS IN GEAR WITHOUT POPING OUT(COMMON PROB.WITH55)CHECK THAT PTO CLUTCH DONT SLIP,AND SNAPS INTO ENGAGEMENT.THE ROUND FUEL INJECTION PUMP HEAD(BOCSH)IF WORN WILL MAKE FOR HARD STARTING,AND REQIURE EITHER.IF IT NEEDS REPLACING,IT CAN COST UP TO$1000.IT IS ALSO HARD TO FIND.IF TRACTOR IS IN GOOD SHAPE,IT IS WELL WORTH $1800.DARE SAY TO THE RIGHT GUY,COULD BE WORTH AROUND $3500.GOOD LUCK.
