I had a neighbor that worked at the dump. He would bring home all kind of tools. He would show me his finds and ask why people would throw (this kind of stuff) away. He was not mechanically inclined at all so he would have me check it out. Some of it was really junk but a lot of it I could fix very easily. I kept about 70% of what I fixed and gave him back about 30%. He was baffeled by what people threw away but when you think about it a Makita 1/2 inch electric drill for instance. I put a switch and a cord on it, which cost me about $12 at work.(Local lumberyard) If previous owner had taken it to the repair shop to get fixed parts would have been $35-40 and %60 labor to fix a drill that could be replaced for $120. If a person isn't mechanically inclined that would be a $100 repair bill on an old $120 drill.
