I've tried them quite a few tims over the years and still hate them. Granted there have been a few times I've gotten into situations where one would come in handy but that's about it. For me even things like expanded metal aren't an issue. I've done repetative skips like that so long I can usually drop my hood and do it with no problems. Trying to do it with a lens that keeps flashing light and dark every couple of seconds leaves me disoriented and it actually takes me longer to do the job than if I had worn my regular helmet. I think like many products the auto dark lenses were designed to make certain tasks easier for guys getting into the field and just learning because they could see everything better, but for guys like me that have been doing it for years it's often just as much about you can feel and sense otherwise as it is about what you see. Like I said, there times when I've though one would be nice to have for a particular situation, but in general, they just don't work for me.
