I understand what you're saying, but for me, we lose power too many times a year. Even in the winter the sump pump will still run and if I am on my snowmobile trip and the wife is home alone without power, try explaining how to hook up the generator for water (we use a well), not to mention fridge and freezer.
The place that sells them locally, is a good family owned OPE business that also sells Polaris and Arctic Cats. I haven't talked to them, but I would like to think they did some homework before taking them on/selling them.
Lat Oct's snow storm, which I lost power for 11 days, was a clincher. Not that LP is that much cheaper than gasoline, but to not have to rush home to fill it was gas because the sump pump was running once every 2-3 minutes for 6 days straight. Our water table is definitely high....
I've only heard of Kohler, Onan, Generac, and Briggs for home units. I'm sure there are others, such as Gillette, but you never know, someone might own one or work there.....
