I always had my aluminium end dump "whitened" (acidized) at the ol' Streakin' Beacon truck wash.
When I needed to do welding repairs on it at home, I would pressure wash the area, then use a diluted muratic acid solution on it, then after sitting for a bit pressure wash again.
The problem with using the acid wash is it will take the smooth shine off the aluminum, especially if it is polished. Most guys won't acidize a new trailer till it gets too looking pretty bad.
An old rockhauler trick to the aluminium trailers is to have them washed and whitened, then immediatedly coat them with a strong mixture of Mop and Glow and water to seal the metal and keep them looking good for a long time. I always wanted to try it but never did.
