If your going to get new pistons at least go .045 over. Putting a new set of high compression pistons in a 56 year old standard bore block wouldn't be smart.
Wouldn't go too crazy on cutting the head down and removing too much eyebrow unless your willing to run good gas. Remove too much it might detonate under load.
Pistons will more than likely run around $400 no matter what size .045-.125, they are on eBay for $430. A bore job will be in the neighborhood of $250.
Cam grind will run approx $200.
Go with .045 over pistons, deck the head to get a good head gasket seal and a good valve job. Send the cam and lifters to Berry Cams, you'll have a nice running 60.
