I went looking at chemical strippers, found a few to choose from, so I thought I'd research it further on the web. As I was headed to the computer in my home office, I walked past a gallon jug of Klean-Strip "Strip-X" multipurpose stripper in a red can that my wife had used to strip varnish off some chairs. I tried it and it worked quite well. This is on a 1950 Ford truck with at least 3 coats of paint (black, orange and green, wonder what they were thinkin'?). There's probably better stuff, but this worked and it's water clean-up.
