I'm not familiar with the products you are using. It is best to stay with one brand of primer and topcoat throughout the process. You need to refer to the spec sheets that should be available for the products you are using and see whether the mfg makes an epoxy and whether it can be used over those products. That said, etch usually needs another primer over it as it is usually not meant to be directly topcoated. And high build primers will usually not bond to bare metal as well as etch or epoxy will. In your case the high build should be applied over the etch. But, you do not need to use, and shouldn't use a high build primer on cast. And, it would be best if epoxy was used over the etch, IF, it is compatible. Someone with more experience than me may answer that question as I have not tried the methods you are using. I am not telling you that what you did will not work, but I, personally, would not use that method. Yes, epoxy will seal until you are ready to paint, and I have heard of cases where it lasted for years without rusting.
