It all depends on what kind of job you want. Anything not removed, such as a hydraulic line, does not get cleaned or painted on the side next to the block, nor does the engine or transmission housing, etc get painted where the line is. At a minimum remove the sheet metal, drawbar or hitch, gas tank, air cleaner, governor, lights, belts, hoses etc. Since it is a diesel, you may not want to remove the pump and lines. I have never painted a diesel. Paint will not necessarily damage hoses or belts, but to me it doesn't look right. Tape off any open lines. Best to remove the generator, starter, and wiring. Many people don't. Totally up to you, not someone else.
