It should give the maximum pressure on the gun. That figure will give the recommended 10 psi at the cap. I don't mess with the pressure on mine, I use the maximum pressure. The fluid flow is set with the trigger pulled, and the adjustment turned nearly all the way out. Turn the adjustment knob in until you feel resistance on the trigger, then 1/2 turn more. Turn the fan control in about 1/2 turn from wide open. These settings give a full pattern, you can mess with the settings if you like, but the gun will work best "wide open". If I want a smaller pattern I use a touch up gun. If the gun does not state the pressure, I can't help you much, as they vary from about 30 psi to 50 psi depending on the manufacturer. If there are no instructions, I would consider the gun junk. You also need to pay attention to the tip size. 1.3-1.5 for topcoats, maybe 1.5 for most primers, 1.6-1.8 for surfacers (1.8 is sort of like a fire hose). I use a separate gun for primer, as I don't like to change tips all the time.
