The only way to change the filter without draining the entire hydraulic system would be to turn the tractor upside-down. However, there was someone who posted here quite some time ago that installed a valve between the reservoir and the filter.
Before you drain the oil, make sure the canister is clean. Depending how long it has been it may be a sob to get the filter tube that holds the canister broke loose. Seems like it takes about an 1 1/2" wrench to remove. After removal clean all of the parts with a good solvent and blow dry. Lube all the seals before reassembly.
If I remember right you will need to have about ten gallons of hydraulic oil on hand.
