I believe when using "certain" of their coils, Pertronix DOES NOT RECOMMEND SOLID CORE WIRES. Check with them for coil and wire suitability that matches BOTH your switch and coil. Some companies manufacture spiral wound plug wires which "theoretically" could provide some degree of inductive impedance in addition to higher resistance over the regular straight wire core, IF ITS REQUIRED????? It seems there are all sorts of options offered for super high energy exotic ignitions used on high RPM high compression race cars, but those probably arent needed on our old low compression lower RPM tractors.
Burning up coils sounds like excess current which obviously over heats them as they cant dissipate that much heat.
Id just give Pertronix Tech Support a call and trust what they have to say versus what we say on the board (if you havent already)
