I gave service station work a try around 1976/77... I told the owner I would not handle money, pump gas are wash cars I would only do wrench work this went well until it started to cool off in October/Nov... Things slowed down he got rid of a few gofers so I had to handle money, pump gas, wash cars and do the wrench work... After a few weeks of going home with wet cold feet I checked out of their :lol: The pay was not bad at that time around $7 a hour,, I think the labor rate then was $6 a hour...
Prior to that job I worked at a Firestone tire shop same pay and EZ work... Every job was menu priced you do the job by script if it did not fix it the job was shipped... Why folks would pay for a tune up (are any other work) that did not fix their car and have to go somewhere else after paying for this work I never figgerd out but they always returned for more of it...
