Andy........we've ALL FLUNKED mind reading, we have NO IDEA what parts of the backhoe you are asking about.
The 8N has 2-types of ignition systems, the weird 4-nipple frontmount with squarecan ignition coil and the more common looking 5-nipple sidemount with traditional roundcan coil. Unless yer 8N has been converted to 12-volts, electronic ignitions do NOT like 6-volts. I can buy alotta points ($20, cheap) fer the cost of an electronic ignition.
You do know ittza 2-bolt, 15-min job to remove the weird 4-nipple frontmount and change the points (0.015") on the kitchen table, don't you??? Just un-snapple yer capple and letter dangle. Installation is a reversal of the removal ...except... finger start the 2-bolts and install the rotor. Now rotate the rotor until the OFF-SET back drive tang fits into the OFF-SET camshaft drive slot. By being OFF-SET, the dizzy never looses time. Now tighten the 2-bolts and re-snapple the capple. Simple, eh?
Whether the points are frontmount (0.015") or sidemount (0.025"), ALWAYS POLISH the INVISIBLE corrosion from between the points after installation. Me? I clamp a clean $1-bill between the points and pull. Iff'n yer really cheap, tear a strip of HEAVY brown paper grocery sack and use that. ..........Dell, yer mindless self-appointed sparkie meister
