You need to learn to do simple trouble shooting. It takes 3 things for and engine to run. Spark as in ignition fuel as in gas and compression so as to make a good explosion. So you know you have gas at least getting to the carb since you can smell it but do you have spark and is that spark as it should be. Pull the center wire from the distributor cap and hold it about a 1/4 inch from the engine block. Crank it over with the ignition on and make sure you have a good blue/white spark that will jump a 1/4 inch gap or more. If it does there check at the plug wires. Just had that type of problem the other day on a tractor and it was a simple loose wire and hit a bump and it would die and then maybe start
