Three weeks ago my 8n (nice rebuild 3 years ago and now has about 55 hours on it)started backfiring through the exhaust, had to idle it down to keep it running. I didn"t have time to look at it so I put it away. Since then I changed that gear oil to the correct UTF. Really helps to have thinner oil for the lift in the winter, btw.
Anyway, 9 inches of heavy snow last night so I go out to plow. After a few minutes she wants to quit...idled it down to keep it running...back up and dies out. Happened several times. Fuel bowl is full, I pulled it down and cleaned it(already clean). Pulled the carb. elbow filter, cleaned. Pulled the carb screw on bottom. 35 secs or so I had almost a pint of gas. Pulled a plug wire and put another plug on with a good 3/16" gap...grounded on manifold...consistant yellow spark. She started on 3 cylinders too!. Anyway, wrapped the bottom of the carb with hammer handle. Still the same problem. I pulled the carb b4 dark and here I am. Should I take it apart? I rebuilt it 6 years ago and never had any problems like this b4. Now what?
