"Regular drop rate" sounds like the Exhaust control valve is being opened by the linkage, then, because if it were just a leak, it would likely drop slower (seconds to minutes) unless it turned out to be a gigantic leak, in which case it might never lift.
What about a lift to say half of all the way up? Will it hold that position (small lever vertical/position control?
