I think you made a typo (8 bolt wheels). I do believe that all the 8Ns had 6 bolt front wheels, and yes....I have used standard implement rims of either 15" or 16" size depending on what size pair of tires I had available at that moment. I do prefer to use 15" trailer rated tires (like from a travel trailer) because they have a firm sidewall and a narrow footprint but no ribs to tear up the lawn. They also go quite well down the road. And they are FREE! And so are the rims (wheels) I used because they came off an old light style running gear.
As to the other question of what car rims work for this application, I do believe you are out of luck. Wheel manufacturers designated a different center hole diameter for implement wheels than for car wheels. This prevents someone from using a low speed lighter weight implement wheel on a car or PU. Automotive wheels are built to a higher standard than implement wheels.
