ALTERNATOR WIRING PROBLEMS

I am having a problem with my 2N.The alternator pully broke,so I bought a new Alt.And new wiring,to replace old wires.( TO ALT,IGnition/SWITCH)
It's a 1 wire to Alt.Well after replacing wiring and Alt.tractor ran for about 5 mins and quit.the resistor was smoking.I changed ceramic resistor and same happened!! What is wrong? I think maybe I have a wire crossed,but it started and runs for a litttle while.I dont have a good 12v wire diagram to trace my problem.Does any one know if wires are on wrong post somewhere ? Or why tractor runs good for 4-5 mins then stops and resistor is glowing??What did we do wrong?
Any help/advice is appreciated.I am disabled and my son is trying to fix my 2N.
Any suggestion ?? I need advice. HELP !!!!!!!
