Sounder........1/2" of blue sparkie from a frontmount ignition coil with a 12 volt conversion! No wonder yer rotor contacts are eroded, your cap contacts eroded, and it still jumped sparkie gap of 0.045 while new sparkie gap should be 0.025. Points are probably burned to crisp too. (gap 0.015) Sounds to me like you've gotta the OEM 6 volt coil being hit with full 12 volts. Your coil will crappout after about 1 hr (or less) of runnin' and will "cure-itself" overnite after the melted insulative tar re-hardens. Unfortunately, there is no eazy way to tell if'n your squarecan ignition coil is the OEM 6 volt coil except by measureing with an ohm meter. Connect one ohm meter lead to the top terminal, and measure to eather bottom leads. The secondary winding will be about 7000 ohms. (6 or 12) The 6 volt primary will be about 1 ohm and a 12 volt primary will be about 5 ohms. (thats a major noticeable difference in primary winding resistance) You maybe in the market for a new modern 12 volt squarecan frontmount ignition coil........Dell
