I got my green from JD and it went on fine. I used napa thinner and hardener and it came out looking like a mirror. While I don't leave mine out in the sun, it has seen some sun and it still looks great. The synthetic enamels are better than the alkyld enamels (which are the cheap crap you buy at the auto store). The synthetic will stand up to sun and chemical better, but not nearly as well as a polyurethane will.
If it is going to live inside/out of the sun the JD paint will last forever. If you are going to leave it out in the sun/work it then you might consider upgrading to a more durable paint. Your tractor = your call.
