For some strange reason, I've obtained a John Deere #101 semi-mounted corn picker. I say "strange reason" because we only have 20 acres and we're not farmers. However, there is therapy in working on the older equipment. This particular picker has been in a barn on the original owners farmfor who knows how long. It hasn't seen much use as all the chains and sprockets as well as the snoots have original paint on them. The idea is to revive it to operating condition so my plan is to break it down to the 3 main components to work on, snapping rolls, husking bed, and wagon elevator. Since the elevator is easily removed, I started there. It's freed up and cleaned up. Next on the hit parade is the husking bed. Here's where I've got a problem. The husking bed has 2 rolls, a rubber one and a wooden one. The rubber one is in surprisingly good condition, it's pliable and not brittle at all. The wooden one is dry rotted and very soft. It's round and has steel pieces inletted, running the length. Is there any place or person that rebuilds these? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Mark
