Hi There, I have a 1964 Super Major. I just enlisted the help of a tractor mechanic to help me get going on the rebuild of this tractor. I have the rear end back together with the ring and pinion exposed. I put lubriplate on the gears and turned the pinion gear by hand which laid a grease pattern on the ring gear. The mechanic thought the grease pattern left too much of an angle across the ring gear and said he had not seen that type of contact pattern before. Did not see a way to change it unless setting the pinion at an angle. He just figured the English designed it that way. SO I guess my question is, is that normal? He thought the gears contacting in that way was not as strong as if the pinion and ring would have had an aligned contact area instead of the slight angle. Thanks for the help Kerry
