type of oil can contribute.. a diesel rated hd oil actually has additives to control and minimize the amount of oil that is picked up in the crankcase and then blown out as vapor. Gas oils usually do not have this rating. some vapor is common and even normal as water vapor is expelled when cold. these tractor engines do not have a pvc system where these vapors are sucked back into the engine and burnt like on a car. be sure to run an hd tractor oil for better overall wear, protection and less crankcase venting. (shell rotella, chevron delo, or mobil delvac are examples of hd oils in 15w-40 or even 5w-40 availlible most anywhere if you look). Mystic and royal purple and others also make these hd oils. Car oils are made to be changed often. hd oils have extra additives to fight moisture, acids, and wear preventive additives for hd use plus handle the soot loading of diesel use and keep the wear down. These oils are designed for a 10,000 mile change interval in hd equipment. Car oils usually avoid these additives as the additives can coat the catylitic converter due to its high heat and render is usless. The high wear additives are attracted to exteame hot areas and coat the hot metals with things like phosphorours and zync that reduce friction and then drop the heat. Unfortunatly catyltic converters dont like to be coated and cooled down.
