Ok, I am the proud new owner of a 1968 5000 Diesel. It has the 10 speed select-o-speed transmission. I bought the I & T manual and adjusted my clutch bands following the directions on the manual. It is a little better but I still slip in 1 Reverse, 3,4,7 and 8th gears. (I have not tried the higher gears as the area I have to test is not suitable for that speed) Another onservation I have it that 1 and 2 work fine, when you apply the brakes it lugs down the tractor but keeps going. 3,4 brakes will stop the tractor and 'slip' the transmission. 3 and 4 also seem slower than 1 and 2. The same situation applies for 7th and 8th.
I am going to work on getting the pressure testing equipment to test my pressures, but am I totally out of luck? I have been told that a select-o-speed transmission is nearly impossible to find parts for? What else should I check?
Can it be fixed or should I start looking for an 8 speed syncro shift tractor that needs an engine??
