You have an auxillary transmission, most likely a Sherman 3-speed. Pulling back is one, pushing all the way forward, is another. In the center position, is neutral, but if you pull it out to your left (away from the tractor, is the 3rd speed. In 1953, Ford offered the Sherman as an extra original-equipment option. Your tractor may have had a front-loader, and/or backhoe on it. The 12-speeds gave much more selection when very low speeds or high road gears were needed. Please consider joining the F/FCA.
