I recently tried some advice and used the blade backwards. That is, when driving backwards, the concave side of the blade is to the front (and vice-versa). ( <- concave side is the right side of this parenthesis This works really well. The blade doesn't dig into my gravel driveway anywhere near as much and it still pushes snow just as well. The only part of my driveway that I now do with the blade facing the direction of travel is the paved part. The reversed blade doesn't clean the snow off the concrete as well -- it leaves about 1/2 inch of packed down snow. I agree that this is not the ideal setup for heavy snow (like I was working with last week) but it works OK for lighter snow. In heavy snow about the only thing that works well is a loader or front mounted plow. I've used a loader before but wasn't willing to pay the added cost when I bought my current tractor.
