CJim: Thanks for your input (as well as everyone else). It looks like folks use everything under the sun. The general consenus appears to be 15W-30 would be the best alternative, with 15W-40 (low detergent) being the next best. Some have used SAE30, 10W-30, 10W-40, and, as in your case 15W-40 oil designed for diesels. And I think I understand the reason not wanting a HD oil since there is no filtration the higher detergents tend to "wash" everything down to the sump and into the pump causing more damage. Of course there (at least at this point) is still the option of GL-1. I figured I'd go with the GL-1 as this point due to my confusion about the engine oil options. Plus, the GL-1 5 gallon bucket at TSC is the best deal $29.99/5 gal ($1.50/quart) compared to even cheap oil at WalMart (over $2.00/quart) or good oil (over $3.00/quart). Even the 2 gal jug at TSC is currently $14.99--that's about $1.88/quart. I'll still be looking for non-HD 15W-40 in the future (after I've used up my stock of GL-1). Thanks again to all!
