GL-1 oil is a mineral oil.
I guess any hyd oil would work, but that is not the issue, your oil must service the hyd system and also lube the transmission gears and differential gears. I understand the mineral oil was designed to protect the bearings of the transmission/differental.
GL-1 has been used in my TO-35 since 1957, tractor still runs good and hyd works good. I do change the oil out every 5 years or so. but my tractor stays in the barn and has good rubber boots over trans gearshift levers so outside water should not be a problem.
