Well use 1st under like on a transplanter, then 2nd is normal plowing but when get to a tough spot go to 2nd low and if you got to easy going then shift to 2nd high, 3rd low good for disking in previously worked ground, straight 3rd for disking in unworked ground, 3rd over for a hay rake or spring tooth harrow, 4th under for the rotary hoe, 4th for road travel with heavy loads going to local grain elevator but on way home with empty wagon then 4th over so you made it home before dark. 3rd over also good for going out to field with manure spreader. Doubles use out of that tractor with using less fuel if you have the gears you can shift to with a lower engine rpm and also less engine ware. MY TO30 did not have either one and sure wished it did. Would have made a big difference in time to haul a 20 mile round trip to the elevator. Both my 9N & 2N Fords have the over and wish they were the combination. The NAA Ford did not have one as well.
