I just recently finished rebuilding my tractor and went to start it up and no dice. It has spark (the jolt through my finger verified that one lol), and it has gas because the spark plugs are wet. I don't have a timing light so I'm wondering if the timing may be off. I put the distributor on and aligned it like the book said. Once I had the correct advance set on the engine I rotated the distributor till the contacts just start to open and tightened it down. I did this and all I can get out of the engine is soft popping and farting and it is going back through the carb and out the air tube. I was wondering if the distributor should be set so that at the correct advancement the points are just about to close. This would make more sense to me. I don't know I guess I better just go buy a timing light to rule that one out. Anyone had a similar problem?
