Char-lynn steering valve

I have a Char-Lynn steering valve with 4 ports. 2 would go to the steering cylinder (R & L) and 1 port would be for the input (from the pump) and the other would be the return to the tank. With no marks on the valve and the valve in the upright position, which port is which or goes where??
These ports are in a square pattern.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice or in any help steering me to a web site. (I've already check the Eaton site and no help there.)

I used to know this.I can try by memory. The 2 top holes are preasure and return. The 2 bottem go to the steering cylinder. What i did was put the thing in a vice with the holes pointing up and poured in a little oil and turned the shaft. The preasure hole will suck in oil. You can see the oil flow out either side of the bottem holes depending which way you turn.

Just looked at some pics of my install on my 202 conversion. Looks like when the ports are facing you the top left one is the return which would make top right the inlet.
As far as the bottom two which is left and which is right, I think I guessed and happened to get it right. Unless the hoses are in a very difficult area the worst that could happen is it steers the wrong way, no damage done and easily corrected. A better method would be to do as Larry says.
