When I put the addition on this house I never dreamed it would be 3 years before I had a kitchen floor again. Plywood floor is hard to keep clean so I painted it over and over. Sheesh!
Finally last week I found some tile that I liked and so made a little progress.
I really wanted a light green but it seems everything I liked was $15/sq foot or better.
Cripes.
Finally I wanted a floor and color wasn't an object any more! Got these closeout tiles for about $6 a foot and made do. Picture still shows a lot of grout residue but I'll clean it up tomorrow with some vinegar.
I set a lot of tile for a living. The hardest thing is doing it in your own home.

Looks good. I have laid ceramic tile a few times and I can appreciate the work that goes into making it look good.
 

Looks good. price of tiles, no wonder there is so much carpet in houses..... You buy by the sq meter here (10sq ft+/- a little) and can get granite for around 45 euro with normal ceramic anywhere from 5 to 35 euro. Did our house ourselves and it was a real PITA because there isn't a square room or 90 degree corner in the whole house.

One of the benefits of not being a pro is doing what you think is the right way to do it without knowing the storybook way. That and small rooms helped. My 2 requirements was looks from the entrance and least cutting when choosing where to start. Cheated and had someone do the living room though.

Those were the ones that made the price go up. The red/brown tiles were close outs and cost about $3.50/ft. It's them yellow ones that drove the price up - about $9/ft.
Both tiles came 12"X12" but I split them in half to give the floor a little more texture.
